GCA sacks CM Gautam after being nabbed for spot-fixing

As many as six people have been arrested over the match-fixing scandal that was exposed to the recent arrest of Ali Ashfaq Thara recently.

It may be recalled that two days ago CCB had arrested Nishanth Singh Shekawat, a batsman playing for Bengaluru Blasters team in connection with an global betting scam in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2018.

Gautam's Tuskers have taken the field against the Hubli Tigers in the tournament finals this year. Three others including the owner of the Belagavi team, have been arrested in the past couple of months since the scandal came to light. He had also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL), being a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Mumbai Indians (MI). The Tuskers lost the game by eight runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Gautam has previously played for Karnataka senior team and ahead of this season, moved to Goa. Bhavesh Gulecha, a fast bowler of the Ballari Tuskers has given a statement to the police in which he said that he was approached by Bafna to give away more than 10 runs an over in a KPL2019 match. Gautam was a long-term deputy of Vinay Kumar, and stood in for him in three matches 2013, captaining a team with the likes of Robin Uthappa, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Manish Pandey. He has 17 first-class appearances to his name.

Wicket-keeper/batsman C.M. Gautam and Abrar Kazi were arrested in Bangalore by a special unit investigating corruption and fixing in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL).

The coach allegedly manipulated a game between Bengaluru Blasters and Belagavi Panthers a year ago.

KPL franchise- Belagavi Panthers has been grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent times.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Cricket Association announced the suspension of the Belagavi Panthers franchise.

"The CCB has made two important arrests in the KPL spot-fixing scandal", Sandeep Patil, the Joint Commissioner of Police, told ESPNcricinfo in a text message.

"We have terminated Gautam's contract".

Goutam was supposed to represent the Goa cricket team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 tournament scheduled to begin from Friday.
