That's half what the carrier now charges for 4G service. And within six years, 99 percent of Americans will be covered.

"We have definitively put a stake in the ground around the kind of company the supercharged Un-carrier will be and the ways we can put this radically better 5G network to work doing GOOD for this country - good for consumers, good for competition and good for innovation!" said John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile.

Rather than charging extra for 5G, this telecom will combine it with 4G service and lower the cost. Those who want more than 2GB of data a month can opt for a 5GB plan for $25 a month. The program, called T-Mobile Connect, while add 500MB of data to the plan each year. No matter the capacity, these plans will come with unlimited talk and text.

T-Mobile is marketing the initiative as a useful tool for first responders to save money.

Currently, there are only two phones capable of using T-Mobile's 5G network: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G and the OnePlus 7T 5G McLaren Edition.

And, the Connecting Heroes Initiative, which the company says would be a 10-year commitment to offer free 5G access including unlimited talk, text, and smartphone data to every public and nonprofit USA state and local police, fire, and EMS agency across the country.

Those promises, unveiled this week, all are contingent on the merger closing. All they need to do is sign up on T-Mobile's website and once the merger is done they will receive the benefits.

The companies still plan to sell Sprint's prepaid division, Boost Mobile, to Dish Network, effectively creating a fourth carrier, but Slover argues that the deal amounts to trading an established carrier for an unknown player with no experience.

"We hope the court will agree and see this merger, as we do, as clearly anticompetitive and in violation of antitrust laws", he says.
