City are in the right frame of mind: Guardiola

Guardiola is well aware of where the problems lie, without a clean sheet in any match since the 3-0 win against Aston Villa in late October.

"We had 26 shots, not all on target, at Newcastle".

Asked why Stones and Otamendi are not trusted together, Guardiola said: "Because I like 'Dinho playing in that position a lot".

The Brazilian has featured in the centre of the back four at City for an extended spell since a long-term injury to Aymeric Laporte in August limited Guardiola's options.

"We need to try to correct it for Tuesday night".

Since then, the manager has admitted that he's been impressed with Fernandinho's ability to adapt to the role.

"I prefer Gundogan and Rodri in this position [midfield]". That is why he plays.

Summer signing Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan have been chosen over three-time Premier League victor Fernandinho in midfield by the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

But Laporte insists City can once again pip Liverpool to the title having beaten the Reds by a solitary point in a thrilling race last term.

Pep Guardiola would hold his pre-Burnley press conference on Monday afternoon with the Spaniard acknowledging what a tough place Burnley is to visit. While the results have not been ideal, Manchester City have still looked very impressive and I see them being a very tough opponent in this match.

Guardiola, whose defending champions are 11 points adrift of Jurgen Klopp's team with more than a third of the season gone, is adamant the City players have not been affected by a poor run of just one victory in five games in all competitions.

"He is not ready for the derby but after the derby we will see", Guardiola said. "That is the fact".

"We need to make sure we work hard and don't lose any more games". "We have to be more solid and score the chances we have".

Burnley sit 10th in the table, despite a 2-0 defeat at home against Crystal Palace on Saturday, and Guardiola was full of praise for the Clarets under long-term boss Sean Dyche.
