When it comes to being a dad, Dwyane Wade is still an MVP.

Wade's 12-year-old son, Zion, was the target of some offensive posts after Wade's wife, Gabrielle Union, posted a family photo to Instagram on Thanksgiving, which included Zion in a mid-riff shirt and fake nails. "There'd be a lot less trauma in our community if more Black dads were like this".

This isn't the first time Wade had to check homophobic comments, and sadly, it's surely not the last. "But here's the thing-I've been chosen to lead my family not y'all", he said on Twitter. The Wade family attended the Miami Pride Parade this year to support Zion with tshirts that read "Please Remain Inclusive & Dedicated 2 Equality". I truly hope that everyone gets the love, support and hugs they deserve" and added, in reference to her daughter's serious look at the camera, "Also Kaav ain't with the dumb s -. "So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!" he wrote on Twitter.

In the photo, the former National Basketball Association star and Union pose on a staircase with their daughter, Kaavia, and Wade's son from a previous relationship, Zion. "To all the friends and family that have my back and all the friends and family I've never met who show love and support when everyone is looking and when no one is looking ..."

And as a father, it's his job to support them and encourage them to go down the paths they want to in life.

And when social media users began to criticize the photo, Wade responded. I'm doing what every parent has to do. It's my job to be their role model, to be their voice in my kids' lives, to let them know you can conquer the world.
