This morning, The Sun reported that Phillip's relationship with Holly had "become strained in recent months", following her stint on I'm A Celebrity previous year.

They also alleged that Holly objected to Phillip publishing videos of his drinking on social media, but had to ask him not to do so through his agent because she was too afraid to talk to him directly.

According to The Sun, there are eight ITV presenters who have spoken about a "toxic" atmosphere in the network.

Phillip and Holly apparently clashed when she won a BAFTA for filling in for Ant McPartlin on I'm A Celebrity, which Phillip didn't want her to celebrate on This Morning. If they publicly express themselves about the atmosphere, they worry that there may be repercussions.

A source of ITV told the Sun: "Phillip was furious".

Another colleague added: 'He is very jealous of Holly, who has remained a nice person despite her success'.

Fern Britton also quit her role on the show as it was reported that Phillip was paid "three times" more than her, as her agent called him an "arch manipulator".

Hitting back at the claims, an ITV spokeswoman said: "It's deeply disappointing and unfair for Phillip to be the target of this sort of malicious gossip".

Martin Frizell, Editor of This Morning added: 'I spend hundreds of days a year in their company and what you see is what you get, a genuine friendship from a couple who are both spontaneously amusing and professional. We have the most intelligent television viewers and believe me, they would be the first to notice problems - they do not have them because there are none.

Metro.co.uk reached out to Phillip's reps for comment. PM Johnson joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in their popular show This Morning on Thursday.
