Well, according to a report from Tom Pelissero, Harrison wants to keep playing football but it will not be for the Lions.

The Lions will save at least $6.75 million off the cap with his release.

Harrison was due to earn $8.5 million in 2020 salary, $3.5 million of which was due to become fully-guaranteed in March.

The veteran defensive lineman leaves another hole for the Lions to fill in the draft or free agency.

Harrison was dominant in his first season with the Lions, helping the run defense in the second half of 2018.

The Lions defensive tackles corps could look a whole lot different next season.

He signed a one-year, $11MM extension with the organization last offseason, and the intent was that he'd remain in Detroit through the 2021 campaign. But his production waned in 2019, and injuries didn't help. It was his first time not with a NY team in his career. Harrison, who turned 31 in November, said if he felt he couldn't return to the player he had been in prior seasons, he would walk away.
