A new Star Wars movie helmed by relatively unknown director J.D. Dillard is now in the works at Disney, according to a recent report from THR's HeatVision newsletter. It's unclear whether this new Star Wars film will be a theatrical release or if it will debut on the Disney Plus streaming service.

With Lucasfilm now planning the next phase of Star Wars movies, executives are reportedly trying to decide which characters and stories are right for theaters and which would be better suited as a Disney+ exclusive, says THR. Dillard and Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. scribe Matt Owens, but those with knowledge say that it's not definite whether it's for Disney+ or the big screen.

As expected, details about the new film are scarce at the moment - we don't know anything about the plot, characters, or settings that may be featured. We've long heard rumors about new Star Wars movies being set in the Old Republic and High Republic eras. Aside from previously announced projects from Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson, another film from the iconic Lucasfilm property is reportedly in the works as well.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a new Star Wars movie is in the works from Dillard and Owens. This completion is running on most of the official Disney, Marvel and Star Wars social media channels in the United Kingdom.
