This term, he has made 17 league appearances for Inter, who were in third place in the Serie A table before Italian football was suspended amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is expected to oversee an overhaul when the transfer window reopens after taking over from Mauricio Pochettino during the current campaign, with the full-back positions a priority.

Vertonghen is now mulling over whether to prolong his association with Tottenham or take on a new challenge.

Speaking to Kleedkamer, Vertonghem said, "I'm in a process right now that I have to grab a piece of paper and write down the pros and cons of the options I will have soon".

"I will really have to decide what I want in my career".

'I have to start thinking about where I still want to live, what language I want to learn, what culture I still want to live in. "Also very importantly: [I must consider] which competitions and prizes I still want to win".

Dier has primarily featured as a defensive midfielder throughout his career, although he was used as part of a back three for Spurs' last two Premier League fixtures.

"Jan is still super happy at Spurs and loves London".

"He is still very committed". "I'm at a good stage now and just working hard, doing a lot of recovery, a lot of rehab and just waiting to see what happens to the season".

"It is logical that after eight years a connection is created".

'We haven't reached an agreement as yet, but we don't rule out anything. There's interest in him as a free agent, but Spurs is a very interesting option for us. "The door's still open".
