Trump praised the efforts of the country to date.

Trump is under pressure to restart parts of the moribund economy, stalled by skyrocketing unemployment as workers are urged to stay home and companies shut their doors.

According to the president, unemployment numbers were expected to be much worse.

"Well, it's nobody's fault, certainly not in this country", stated President Trump.

"The point I want to make is I don't want you to be the back-up quarterback, we need you to be Tom Brady here", Inslee said as he pleaded with the president by telling him he has "both the moral and legal authority" to fix problems with the lack of personal protective equipment and ventilators now available to medical workers. "The business community stands ready to support the G20 in their efforts to develop coordinated responses to the pandemic, including collaboration with the G20 Ministers of Health as they prepare for a virtual meeting next month", he said.

White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday that once the country "turns that corner" and the spread of the coronavirus has been reduced, we "can start thinking about getting back to some degree of normality".

When Bowser pressed him on whether it could happen by Friday, Trump said he'd give it a shot, adding later, "We'll do it one way or another Muriel, we'll get it done".

Those calls go against the advice of many public health experts who say impatience would invite disaster. While the numbers represented the highest number of unemployment claims since the beginning of October 1982, Trump said the economy would rebound after the threat of the virus in the USA had ended. "We are learning that not all coronavirus task force members had seen Mr. Trump's letter to the governors before the letter was released".

But he warned that testing was still ramping up.

'That's when you have to hunker down, nail down, mitigate, mitigate, mitigate, get the people taken care of, ' Fauci continued. "And any decision we make has to be based on the data".

Trump's letter followed a day after the Senate overwhelmingly approved a $2 trillion economic relief package.

Bowser said the district was being "shortchanged" and asked the president if the bill could be fixed before the House votes on Friday. And he argued that people would still be practicing social distancing and hand washing.

"Part of this will be the need to have highly responsible behavior between counties", she said, saying the administration would provide additional guidance to states next week, once the new plan is finalized.

Trump has grown impatient with the negative economic impact of restrictions put in place to quell the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the USA, and in recent days has been pushing for the stringent measures to be scaled back.

The Comfort's sibling, the hospital ship USNS Mercy, has been deployed to Los Angeles to offer its capacity there.
