Starting March 30, first responders, medical professionals and activated National Guardsmen will receive a discount at Dollar General stores.

"At Dollar General, we are deeply appreciative for the ongoing and fearless work that our medical professionals, first responder communities and National Guard activated continue to perform during these unprecedented times", said Dollar General's CEO Todd Vasos.

All you need to do is present your employment badge or ID.

Dollar General says it will begin offering a discount to all those serving on the front-lines of the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline may be extended based on the evolution of COVID-19 in the U.S. "To demonstrate our heartfelt gratitude for these individuals' tireless service to their communities, we are proud to help support them with this discount".

All Dollar General stores are also dedicating the first hour each morning to senior customers with the goal to provide at-risk neighbors the opportunity to shop for essential items in a less crowded environment.

The discount does not apply to additional coupons, gift cards, all phone cards, prepaid Visa cards, prepaid wireless handsets, lottery tickets, Rug Doctor rentals, tobacco and alcohol beverages.

The retailer also has committed to offering $35 million worth of bonuses for store and distribution employees nationwide who work there during a six-week period beginning in mid-March. All employees are being given a 30 percent discount on DG's private brands through May 4.
