Variety reported that the Ghost Rider actor signed on to executive produce and star in the series and notes that this is Cage's first foray into television.

We've had a Tiger King shaped hole in our lives for some time now, ever since the hugely popular Netflix show was released several weeks ago.

This will be the second scripted series about Joe Exotic and the world of Tiger King, with the first series to be based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic, with Kate McKinnon set to star as Joe's nemesis Carole Baskin. The series is being developed by American Vandal showrunner Dan Lagana and Paul Young, who optioned the rights to the article.

The scripted project, now titled Joe Exotic, will center on Joe as he fights to keep his animal park even at the risk of losing his sanity.

Nicolas Cage is coming to the small screen.

It will delve into how Joe Schreibvogel became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself while trying to save his zoo.

The actor will feature as the eccentric zookeeper, whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, in an eight-episode series.

But Tiger King fans - fear not.

Tiger King was released on Netflix in March and was watched by 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days of release in the US, according to the data firm Nielsen.

Outside of hosting Saturday Night Live twice, this Joe Exotic series will mark Nicolas Cage's first major television project, having spent decades leaving his mark on the film world with content like Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off, National Treasure and Color Out of Space.

Is that Nicolas Cage in a behind-the-scenes shot from the upcoming Tiger King miniseries?

For days, people put together their dream cast, with Danny McBride most frequently touted as the best choice to play the show's extreme anti-hero, Joe Exotic.
