TMZ Sports is reporting that former National Football League quarterback Ryan Leaf has been arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery in california.

Leaf was arrested around 2 p.m.in Palm Desert, California, and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, according to online jail records. He is set to appear at 8 a.m. on May 27, and is now being held on $5,000 bond.

Almost 22 years after he placed 3rd in the Heisman Trophy voting, Leaf was inducted into the Washington State Cougars Hall of Fame in September 2019.

He was the No. 2 overall draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 1998 but had just a four-year National Football League career before his personal life fell apart.

"As of now (the time of this post), Leaf is still in custody". Leaf played just three seasons in the NFL, throwing for 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, and earned the dubious distinction as one of the biggest draft busts in league history. Leaf spent time in jail and violated his probation in Texas in 2014 when he broke into a home in Montana to steal prescription drugs.

He has been arrested multiple times for drug possession and burglary.

Leaf has been engaged to Anna Kleinsorge, a former Georgetown volleyball player, since 2017.
