The Jets went 7-9 and had a losing record for the fourth straight year. The veteran running back knows the division well.

"Adam's very smart", Gore said on a virtual conference call with reporters Thursday.

"Brady's gone, and it's wide open", he said.

If the Jets are to be the team to finally end the Patriots' streak of dominance, they will need a lot more out of Sam Darnold and Bell than they got last season. I think it's wide open. I respect the way he prepares himself to get ready for the season.

With the Jets, he'll likely be behind Le'Veon Bell in a backfield that will also include rookie La'Mical Perine.

When Adam Gase was an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2008, he told Frank Gore that he wanted the running back to play for him if he ever got a head coaching job.

Playing for his fifth team, and fourth in the past four years, Gore is thrilled to carry any role that keeps his National Football League career chugging along. "I'm just going to come in, come to work", Gore said. "I'm happy to even be playing this game at my age". I'm happy that this organization is giving me an opportunity. Whenever I get my number called, I'm going to just go out there and try to make a play for our team to be successful. He's No. 3 on the league's career rushing list with 15,347 yards, behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

"I was 35 and once you touch that 30-mark, guys don't really want to give you an opportunity, give you a chance", Gore said.

"I didn't, because when I was playing in the first six, seven games, I was balling", Gore said. I felt like I still can do it. "I love to stay around younger guys at the position, just to look at myself, to be honest with myself".

The Raiders also showed interest, but he thought the Jets were a better situation. And remember, the Patriots still have that Bill Belichick guy coaching them.

In 2018, Gase made it happen with the Dolphins. That's what I like about Adam. "He's a man of his word".

Gore has not been able to meet his new teammates due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Gore said he has followed Darnold since college and has heard good things about him, including from Allen previous year in Buffalo.

As for Bell, Gore said he has known him since he entered the league, and he even got a jersey from Bell a year ago to display in his home. He always respected me; I respected him.

"I'm cool", Gore insisted.
