"We know from just before and I ensure you I know now mainly because now I get briefings again".

Joe Biden revealed at a Friday night fundraiser that he is now getting intelligence community briefings as the Democratic presidential nominee and warned that both China and Russian Federation are trying to undermine the legitimacy of the upcoming 2020 elections.

China also was conducting activities "designed for us to lose confidence in the outcome" of the 2020 election, Biden told supporters during an online fundraiser for his campaign. The Russians are nevertheless engaged in attempting to delegitimize our electoral system.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Biden's statement.

Traditionally, the nominee for the leading opposition party begins receiving intelligence briefings ahead of the vote so that the candidate will be fully informed on the first day should he or she win the election.

Security officials warned at the end of previous year foreign adversaries would attempt to interfere in the 2020 elections, to "undermine our democratic institutions, influence public sentiment and affect government policies".

Biden has previously suggested that President Donald Trump could hold up emergency funding to help the Postal Service continue normal operations during the coronavirus, which has devastated the agency's finances and contributed to a huge drop in mail volumes.

U.S. intelligence found that Russian Federation intervened in the 2016 elections to support Donald Trump, who has bristled at the charges and called for better ties with Putin.
