"Although I tested positive, I am asymptomatic, and I feel absolutely fine". I will be quarantined until I receive two negative test results, which I hope will arrive shortly.

"I am sad that this has happened, but I believe that everything is in God's timing and that my return to Major League Baseball will happen in His ideal plan and timing for me", Puig said in a statement on Twitter.

In his statement, Puig urged people to be diligent about the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that he never would have guessed looking in the mirror that he had the virus.

"Please don't take me", he said at the time, according to Jeff Schultz of The Athletic. "I will see you all very soon when I return to play ball".

Puig, 29, batted.252 with 22 homers and 61 RBIs in 100 games with the Cincinnati Reds last season before being sent to the Cleveland Indians as part of a three-team trade on July 31.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman said the Braves could revisit signing Puig after he clears the testing protocol.

Only five players and one staff member tested positive for coronavirus from the 10,548 monitoring samples taken the past week, Major League Baseball announced.

The shortened 60-game Major League Baseball season during the coronavirus pandemic begins July 23.
