More staff will be added to COVID-19 testing centres in Montreal

A request was made on Saturday for anyone who visited or worked at a bar as of July 1 to get tested for COVID-19, following outbreaks at least five establishments in the area. He said the province has the capacity to test 16,000 people daily, but is only at about 10,000 per day.

Officials in Montreal are calling for anyone, particularly young people, who have been to bars in the last month to get tested for COVID-19.

The Montreal region has seen an increase in the amount of COVID-19 cases among people aged 15 to 39 for the past few weeks, and cases among the general population have increased as well.

Public health officials say the network is now working to increase screening capacity as soon as possible.

Speaking to reporters in Rivière-du-Loup on Wednesday, Premier François Legault also denounced the long wait times.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the province has reached 5,636, with three more deaths reported on Wednesday.
