Bernalillo County now has highest COVID total

Bernalillo County now has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state as New Mexico approaches almost 17,000 cases.

Health officials add that 2.5% of all cases and 26% of hospitalized cases have been moved to the ICU.

Among those sickened by COVID-19 in San Diego, 2,180 people, or 9.4 percent of cases, required hospitalization, and more than a quarter of those were admitted to intensive care units.

Of the 17 cases announced Saturday, they included a man in his 80s and two women in their 60s, but everyone else was 50 or younger, including children, the county data show.

As of Sunday, Washington state had more than 46,026 cases with 1,444 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

"This week, we have seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases", said Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek, Thurston County Health Officer, in a letter to the community. In the week before, 54 people died, the Dallas County Health and Human Services office said. Doña Ana County reported 30 new cases, Sandoval County reported 14 and Santa Fe County reported 10. There has been one death, and no one from the county is now hospitalized that has the coronavirus. He previously was a reporter at the Omaha World-Herald and the Observer-Dispatch in Utica, New York. The northwestern New Mexico county, which has been hit hard by the disease, reported only six new cases on Sunday.

No new cases among state or federal inmates were reported Sunday.
