Twenty-four of the new cases are in the Fraser Health region, 12 of the in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, nine are in the Interior Health region, two are in the Northern Health Region, one is on Vancouver Island and two are people from out of country.

One new death was reported in the Vancouver Coastal Health region bringing the total of COVID-19 related deaths to 195 in the province. Of the total COVID-19 cases, five people are in hospital (no change from July 30), two of whom are in intensive care. Of the 50 new cases, five cases are epidemiologically-linked, meaning people who were never tested but were presumed to have COVID-19 because they developed symptoms and were close contacts of a laboratory-confirmed case.

Fraser Health has announced a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Burnaby. Henry and Dix said the remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There are no new community outbreaks.

The province also warned of additional community exposure events that have taken place across the province, including an ever-growing list of flights travelling to or from Vancouver International Airport.

It is the second time in as many weeks that cases have reached 50, as the province continues to see a surge in cases connected to activity around the Canada Day long weekend. Cleaning and infection control is being enhanced, and residents, families, and staff are being notified.

"Let's socialize safely by keeping our groups small, using the layers of protection and giving everyone enough space to stay safe, whether at a backyard barbecue, on a friend's boat or enjoying a nearby park", continued the statement.

Numerous new cases have also involved younger people, in their 20s to 40s.

On Friday, the province released a website titled "Dr. Bonnie Henry's Good Times Guide", aimed at helping people recreate in a safe manner during the pandemic.
