Fauci optimistic on COVID-19 vaccine availability

Over 4.4 million Americans have contracted the virus out of a population of roughly 330 million.

The US now has a total of 153,268 fatalities from the virus, and continues to be the world's worst affected country.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, speaks during a House Select Subcommittee hearing on the coronavirus on Friday on Capitol Hill in Washington.

A veteran of six Republican and Democratic administrations, Fauci has become the most familiar face of the administration's coronavirus task force but a target of many conservatives who want to see the state economies fully reopened.

Rep. Maloney also asked if safety standards and scientific integrity are being compromised for speed.

"We are cautiously optimistic that this will be successful", he said of Moderna's mRNA-1273 candidate.

Redfield told a conference earlier this month that there's a cost to keeping schools closed, even as some push for them to remain shuttered because of fear of COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

In his defense, Fauci said he was "not favoring one crowd versus another crowd".

"Some were followed very carefully and some were not". HIV vaccine development has been so hard because the body doesn't make a strong immune response to that virus, he explained. "It'll probably be phased in", he said, adding that a committee is working to determine how to prioritize vaccine distribution early on.

A coronavirus vaccine could be ready for distribution by the end of the year, and distributed to Americans in 2021, the nation's top infectious disease specialist told lawmakers Friday. The U.S. government plans to launch studies of additional vaccines every month through the fall.

"We're starting to see that in some of the states now, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana and other states", he added.

Further, according to the report, Dr Fauci believes that the US National Institutes of Health will be working with Indian counterparts in a bid to show that Indian research and development capacity is integrated along with the global effects in producing vaccines for the novel Coronavirus. He said that since Indian private sector is the leading manufacturer of vaccines in the world, the manufacturing capabilities will emerge to be important with an effective COVID-19 vaccine, The Indian Express reported.

Fauci's testimony comes at the end of a month in which US coronavirus deaths rose by nearly 25,000 and cases doubled in at least 18 states, according to a Reuters tally, dealing a crushing blow to hopes of quickly reopening the economy.

"I do hope that the Chinese and the Russians are actually testing the vaccine before they are administering the vaccine to anyone", he said. "No limit to protests, but you can't go to church on Sunday". Jordan compared such a move to closing houses of worship and businesses during shutdowns and suggested Fauci unequally judged certain activities over others as worthy of government intervention. "You make comments on dating, on baseball and everything you could imagine".

"I don't know how many times I can answer that", Fauci replied. "I'm not going to opine on limiting anything". "I'm telling you what it is - the danger - and you can make your own conclusion about that".
