Mahlon Reyes, who worked as a deckhand on Deadliest Catch, has died. Though he survived the initial bout he never regained consciousness after being transported to a nearby hospital. He passed away last weekend after suffering a heart attack in his hometown of Whitefish, Montana. Reyes, who appeared as a deckhand on one of the crab fishing boats in the Discovery Channel series, suffered a heart attack on July 25.

The family was unaware of any pre-existing health conditions that may have led to the heart attack. She says he was surrounded by loved ones.

Mahlon's wife also informed TMZ that his Deadliest Catch crew and co-stars will scatter some of his ashes at sea.

We're told Mahlon was working his butt off to recover from a recently torn Achilles, suffered while crabbing on the boat, and was doing everything he could to get back to Alaska for another crab season. According to TMZ, the Flathead County Sheriff's Office has not yet determined his official cause of death.

'The Deadliest Catch' star Mahlon Reyes tragically passed away at the age of 38. He first appeared in episodes in 2012, according to his IMDb page, and went on to appear in fourteen episodes over multiple seasons. Since then, he has appeared in 14 episodes.

Long-running reality series "Deadliest Catch" began in 2005, and follows fishermen aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea.

The programme's title is inspired by the high risk of injury or death, which is a concern in that line of work.

Reyes is survived by his wife and 4 children.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Mahlon, with one person writing: "So sad".
