Incoming Reds CEO Billy Hogan was behind the kit deal, and while the coronavirus pandemic caused a two-month delay in changeover, with the players lifting the Premier League trophy in their New Balance strips, sealing the deal signals a new era for the Liverpool with the sportswear giants.

Liverpool's first highly-anticipated kit since Nike struck a deal with Liverpool has finally been released. That is less than their deal with New Balance but it has been reported that the club have agreed a 20 per cent cut of all merchandise sales.

The Reds have been playing New Balance kits for the past five years, winning the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Premier League with the "NB" logo on their chest.

Liverpool's launch of their new sports association with Nike has begun from today.

"Red, white and teal has been a traditional colourway used throughout the club's history, relating to the traditional crest, while also appearing as a prominent feature on the iconic LFC jersey since the club was founded in 1892".

The particular shade of teal is also deliberately reminiscent of the colour of the Liver Bird statuette that sits at the top of the famous Liver Building in Liverpool, overlooking the city from its lofty perch.

Scott Munson, VP, Nike Football Apparel, said: "At the start of any new partnership it is important to show maximum respect and we have done that by concentrating on the club's core identity".

Reds defender Virgil van Dijk is delighted the club will stepping out in this kit for next season. "I'm very familiar with the quality of the design and innovation that goes into making a kit like this".
