Petrol, diesel, kerosene prices go up

The price of petrol (motor spirit) has been increased by Rs3.86 to Rs103.97 per litre from the existing Rs100.11, according to a Finance Division press release.

On Thursday, the ministry had proposed to increase the price of high-speed diesel by Rs10 and petrol by Rs6.9 per litre. The price of high speed diesel has been increased by Rs5.00.

Besides, light diesel oil (LDO) price has also been increased by Rs6.62/litre and kerosene by 5.97 per litre. This fuel is used in remote areas where LPG is not available for cooking objective.

The new rates will take effect from Saturday midnight.

The new prices will be applicable from August 1, 2020.

According to a notification, the government has made a decision to revise the existing prices of petroleum products in view of rising oil prices trend in global market.

On June 26, the government had made a decision to increase the price of petrol by Rs25.58 per litre for month of July in line with the hike in global crude oil prices.

Last month, the government had jacked up prices by 66% with petrol prices increasing by Rs25.58/litre, diesel Rs21.31/litre, kerosene by Rs23.50/litre and LDO by Rs17.84/litre.
