Lazio kept alive its hopes of finishing second in the Italian league with a 2-0 win against already-relegated Brescia in its penultimate match of the season on Wednesday.

Immobile took his tally for the season to 35, one short of Gonzalo Higuain's record of 36 for Napoli in the 2015-16 campaign. In their final match of the Serie A season the Old Lady will play AS Roma. Atlanta with the same number of points hold the third spot, while Inter Milan occupy the second place with 79 points.

With one game of the Serie A season remaining, Immobile is the outright leading scorer in Europe as his latest strike moved him ahead of Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, who finished the Bundesliga season with 34 goals.

Immobile skimmed the post before finally getting on the scoresheet from a tight angle from Correa's pass in the 82nd minute.

Juventus, which won a record-extending ninth straight Serie A title on Sunday, fielded a much-changed team and lost 2-0 at Cagliari.

With 83 points, Juventus have a lead of four points over second-placed Inter Milan. As AC Milan defeated Sampdoria 4-1, the Swedish striker scored 2 goals. Now it was lion's turn to complete his brace as Ibrahimovic scored his 2nd goal in the 58th minute of the match.

Ibrahimovic then nodded the ball across for Hakan Calhanoglu to add the second six minutes after the break.

Ibrahimovic has scored nine league goals since rejoining Milan in January.

Lecce's bid for survival will go down to the final day after they came from behind to beat Udinese 2-1.

Both Lecce and Genoa will face Parma and Hellas Verona respectively at the weekend to avoid joining Brescia and SPAL in Serie B next season.
