Meanwhile, Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is close to following Howe and new Manchester City recruit Nathan Ake out of the Vitality Stadium exit door after the club accept an improved £18.5million bid from Sheffield United for the goalkeeper.

The Blades have already had an offer of £12m for the 22-year-old knocked back by the south coast club following their Premier League relegation.

A United source has told Football Insider that the club have returned to the negotiating table with a fresh offer in their pursuit of Ramsdale.

The Cherries have a ready-made replacement for Ramsdale in 21-year-old Republic of Ireland global Mark Travers, who has made seven appearances for the club.

Manager Chris Wilder is looking to reinforce the club's goalkeeper ranks despite already signing Wes Foderingham this summer.

Dean Henderson has been the number one for the last two seasons, but he has only been on loan from Man United.

Bournemouth were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Blades sanctioned the sale of Ramsdale to the Cherries for just £800,000 in 2017, but they included a 15% sell-on clause on any future transfer.

Ramsdale started out in Sheffield United's academy and looks to be nearing a return after three and a half years away.

Ramsdale has also learned his trade through loan spells at Chesterfield and Wimbledon.
