Reds skipper Jordan Henderson won the Football Writers Player of the Season award and was hotly-tipped to win this honour too.

De Bruyne beat competition from three Liverpool players - Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane - as well as Danny Ings, Nick Pope and Jamie Vardy.

Also nominated for the player of the season were Southampton's Danny Ings, whose goals nearly single-handedly kept the Saints in the Premier League, Golden Boot victor Jamie Vardy and Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The Man City man set up 20 goals in the disrupted campaign, equalling the record for most assists in an EPL season set by Arsenal striker Thierry Henry in 2002-03.

The 53-year-old won the Manager of the Month prize an unprecedented five times last season, surpassing Pep Guardiola's four from 2017/18.
