"There were two eye pokes, they both got poked in the eye", said the UFC boss. Judges saw it 49-46 twice and 48-47 for Miocic, allowing him to retain the title in the final bout of Cormier's illustrious career.

"I can't see anything out of my left eye", Cormier said. There was no immediate word about his condition. Immediately after the fight when seeing the replay I apologized to Daniel and his team and I do so publicly and unreservedly for missing what I shouldn't have - but I can not call what I do not see.

"I just think Cormier, the way that guy is, the competitor that he is - he says, 'I'm not going out like that.' I don't know, that's my prediction", White said of the former two-division UFC champion. Congrats to Stipe on the performance.

Jon Jones, the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, tried to stir the pot on social media by teasing a challenge to Miocic.

Miocic almost got the finish at the end of the second round and had Cormier in trouble until time ran out. The UFC's heavyweight title was also a clear second fiddle to its Pride Fighting Championships counterpart for most of that first decade.

In the third bout between the pair, Miocic edged Cormier in Las Vegas to win a sixth heavyweight title fight. No ill will. He said somethings I didn't appreciate but he was playing the game, I was not mad at him. Miocic avenged that loss in August 2019 and has now sent Cormier into retirement on the wrong end of a 2-1 trilogy scoreline. Miocic's dominance makes it easy to forget the fact that for much of its early history, the UFC heavyweight division was a complete mess. Miocic has plenty left in the tank to keep cementing his legacy as the best big man UFC has seen inside the cage.

Cormier finished with a 1-2 mark against Miocic and a losing mark against Jones. The result was changed to a no contest. "I love my brothers, they make me feel like one of them, I don't get any special treatment".

"I can not convey just how much I have both lived and loved this sport for the past 20 years".

The only thing missing was the crowd. But no doubt a packed and crazed crowd would have added another dimension to the epic trilogy.

"It was an awesome fight", White said.

"I don't see fans happening any time soon", White said.
