New Covid-19 Cases And No Deaths In Republic

There have been four deaths related to Covid-19 in Northern Ireland over the last seven days, according to latest figures published by NISRA.

Dublin accounts for 18 of the new cases with 17 in Kildare, nine in Clare, five in Limerick with the rest detected in Carlow, Cork, Donegal, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Tipperary, Wexford, Wicklow.

No new deaths related to the virus have been reported, meaning the death toll remains at 1,774.

70% of the latest cases pertain to people under the age of 45, while 16 have been identified as community transmission.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, reiterated what he has said many times before, pressing home the value of adapting our behaviours responsibly to limit the spread of COVID-19.

"We can not become complacent because this virus continues to circulate and sadly continues to have devastating consequences for families".

Health Minister Robin Swann said the number of close contacts linked to positive cases "has more than doubled since July".

"At only 32 years old, she left us far from the country, in Ireland, on a hospital bed in Ballymena", he said.

The Department of Health has urged people to continue using the Covid Tracker app and to phone their GP and self-isolate. after the onset of any Covid-19 symptoms.

The total number of people who have died from Covid-19 has now risen to 859.
