Look away if you're squeamish.

Naija News understands that the awful occurrence happened while the defending champion who goes by the name Alexander Sedykh was competing in the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) European Championships not far from Moscow.

A video of the horrific incident shows Sedykh attempting to lift the 400kg weight when his knees gave way and he tumbled to the ground crying out in anguish.

After he recovers from the surgery, Sedykh says he has to learn how to walk again. Then learn to walk again.

"The main thing is that I must lie motionless in bed for two months", Sedykh said. "The doctor said that I joined either knee and the quadriceps muscle is sewn with a stitch twice".

Last year, a similar injury beset a weightlifter as he tried to squat a lesser 250kg (550lb) during a competition in Russian Federation.

According to the report, Yaroslav Radoshkevich, 20, was attempting a 250kg squat at the World Raw Powerlifting Eurasian Championship in Russian Federation when he suffered career-ending injuries.

After failing his first two attempts to lift the barbell, the pumped powerlifter put everything into his third attempt.

Despite this initial unsteadiness, with a bunch of steel plates balanced on his broad, muscular shoulders, Sedykh dropped downwards in an attempt to squat the incredible amount of weight.

He suffered a compound fracture to his right tibia and was rushed to hospital.

"I had achieved a lot but I will have to quit my hopes and ambitions as rehabilitation will approximately take six months".
