Wildfires burning around California as well as in OR and Washington have sent large amounts of smoke around the Bay Area and kept people mostly indoors to avoid the unhealthy air quality.

Hourly air quality values may range from the "moderate", or yellow, to "very unhealthy", or purple.

Our neighbours to the south are having some serious wildfires, and on Monday, September 14, officials issued an Alberta air quality statement as the skies fill with smoke.

Meteorologists were hoping that an incoming weather system would move smoke out of the area by early this week, but modeling now shows that relief likely won't arrive until the end of the week or the weekend.

They say the smoke is mostly still in Washington and light southerly winds are bringing more from OR at least through Tuesday.

Many of us are under an Air Quality Warning until Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.

The National Weather Service expects air quality to remain unhealthy at times through at least Thursday when a frontal system will spread showers across western Washington.

On Tuesday, the Swiss-designed real-time air quality information system recorded Vancouver as having worse quality air than USA cities closer to the wildfires - including Seattle.

The corporation posted a message on social media advising that wood smoke wafting north from the USA had cut air quality over central and southern B.C., making delivery unsafe for its workers.
