Koeman is keen to bring in Depay to take his place as the man furthest up the pitch, but Romano says Suarez has to leave the Camp Nou before the Dutch worldwide can come.

The Netherlands worldwide has rebuilt his career in France following a hugely disappointing spell with Manchester United, Depay struggling to make an impact in the Premier League following his arrival from PSV Eindhoven. However, he failed to make a name for himself in England and moved to Olympique Lyonnais in 2017.

Koeman is reportedly eyeing to bring his countryman to Camp Nou as he plots Barcelona's revival.

Manchester United had buy-back and sell-on clauses included in the deal when Depay joined the French side for around £17m.

Last week Depay had himself confirmed that Barcelona have shown interest in him. "I'll report to [Lyon] tomorrow and we'll see what happens", he told NOS. "I know that there is interest, but I don't have much more to say because I don't know much about it".

The Lyon president responded to the report from the Netherlands by claiming his Barcelona counterpart admitted they didn't have the cash to fund a move. "The players who received offers have already left".

The forward spent just 18 months at Old Trafford and scored just two league goals, but has since enjoyed a prolific spell with Lyon and boasts a record of 46 goals in just 104 league appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
