Police suspect that two brothers committed suicide after killing their mother, father, sister and maternal grandmother.

"He had some incidents lately that did not go well for him", Felty said, adding that the note detailed his short-lived attempt at college and other disappointments.

According to police, Tanvir Towhid and Farhan Towhidkilled the family members before taking their own lives."Apparently two brothers made an agreement to commit suicide and ended up taking the entire family with them", said Sgt. Jon Felty, a police spokesman.

In a rambling 12-page note initially linked to his Instagram page, Farhan Towhid, 19, said that he and his 21-year-old brother, Tanvir Towhid, assumed getting guns would be the most challenging part of the murder-suicide plot that was finally executed on Saturday.

He wrote that in February of this year, his older brother Farbin - who also battled depression - made a proposition to him: If they couldn't find happiness and "fix everything" within a year, they would kill themselves and their family.

"If I killed just myself, they would be miserable", he wrote.

Farhan's twin sister, Farbin Towhid, had a full scholarship to NYU, FOX 4 reported.

The post says they were both suffering from clinical depression.

Several members of the Bangladesh Assn. of North Texas gathered near the home Monday after news of the deaths was released, the Dallas Morning News reported. Ahmad Hossain, who lives about a block away, told the newspaper that the family moved to the area about seven or eight years ago from NY. He said she was scheduled to return home last week but couldn't because of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Instead of having to deal with the aftermath of my suicide, I could just do them a favor and take them with me", the note reads.

A mass killing where two siblings are the perpetrators is rare, said James Alan Fox, a criminologist at Northeastern University. He noted that his friends tried to help him but failed because "they eventually realized that dealing with a depressed person is a lot of work" and "how impossible fixing them is". "I genuinely do. And that's exactly why I chose to kill them". "They were good people who had bright futures ahead of them".

Fox said generally in killings involving two perpetrators, "usually one is the leader and the other the follower".

"In these situations, mass killing, it's usually one perpetrator", he said.

Police said there were no records of any problems at the home and an investigation is going on.

The brothers said they chose to kill their other family members so they wouldn't have to live with the grief they'd likely experience after their deaths.

"Hey everyone. I killed myself and my family", he began the note, according to local station KTVT, before delving into what he described as a long struggle with depression, which involved cutting himself.

The only other family mass killing recorded in the database that involved siblings was a 2015 slaying in Oklahoma.
