The expanded regular testing offer for the public will be delivered through a home ordering system, at community testing sites or through collection at pharmacies. Updates will be made to the NHS COVID-19 app in England to coincide with the offer of rapid testing for everyone.

More than 120,000 positive cases have already been identified through the use of lateral flow testing.

"As we continue to make good progress on our vaccine programme and with our roadmap to cautiously easing restrictions underway, regular rapid testing is even more important to make sure those efforts are not wasted", said UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

A new "pharmacy collect" service is also being launched, which will provide an additional route to regular testing.

The best route for testing can be found at NHS.UK/get-tested. If testing at home, individuals will need to register their results online or by calling 119. According to official estimates, one in three people with Covid-19 do not experience any symptoms and may be spreading the virus unwittingly.

The positives identified via PCR tests are as follows: 120 positives from 703 PCR contact tracing tests, five from 2,778 tests at the airports, 44 from 1,258 tests taken privately, 34 from 492 tests carried out at the hospitals and two from 183 tests taken after being referred to do so by Global Positioning System.

"Rapid testing helps us find COVID-19 cases that we wouldn't otherwise know about, helping to break chains of transmission". A government marketing campaign encouraging people to take up the offer of twice weekly rapid testing will start running from Friday.

Limassol once again had the highest positivity rate amongst the districts, with 105 positives from 9,752 rapid tests.

The NHS Covid-19 app is also due to be updated from April 8, with everyone in a group now required to check-in when entering a hospitality venue, rather than just one person.

The app will also require users who test positive to share their venue history in a "privacy-protecting way" via the program, the Government said.

The lateral flow tests - which can provide results in around 30 minutes - will be available to anyone, regardless of whether they are showing Covid-19 symptoms. This is to support finding asymptomatic cases who may have caught the virus but are not displaying symptoms. Work has taken place with the industry to make the posters clearer and easier to use.
