Blast kills 4 at Pakistan hotel reportedly hosting Chinese ambassador

The Pakistan Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing. A spokesman for the TTP said, "Our suicide bomber used his explosive filled vehicle in the hotel".

Initial investigation has revealed the explosion was caused when explosive material, fitted inside a auto was detonated, said police. Multiple cars in the parking lot caught on fire as a result of the blast.

Following the blast, Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal has condemned the blast and summoned a report from authorities concerned. The blast killed four people, including a police officer and a hotel security guard.

The well-fortified hotel is next to the Iranian Consulate and the provincial parliament building.

The interior minister, in a statement after a blast in Quetta, said that this is the safest area in the city and foreigners also stay in this hotel.

The hotel premises has been cordoned off and personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department have been deployed to investigate the explosion. The injured include Ejaz Ahmed Bilal Shabbir, Attaullah, Raja Tahir, Ifran Ahmed, Abdul Hameed, Muhammad Noor, Wazir Ahmed, Bilal Qadir, Khuda Bakhsh and Muzamil Khan. "One of our police constables is among the injured".

Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong was staying at the hotel for the night but had left for an official dinner minutes before the blast.

"He [the Chinese envoy] is in Quetta".

"The ambassador was out for a meeting when the explosion took place", he added.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in the provincial capital.

It was unclear who was behind the bombing at the Serena Hotel. He said that blast was planted in a auto.

The spokesperson said that the terrorists behind the attack will be brought to justice. "They can not stop progress and development of Pakistan with such cowardly act". Among them, the doctors have declared two to be in critical condition.

Earlier, local deputy commissioner Aurangzeb Badini gave an update on the situation over the blast.

It is reportedly a VBIED+SB blast in which 12 people got injured and 04 have succumbed to their wounds.

The CTD and police have begun investigations into the blast and will ensure perpetrators are punished, he said.

During the visit, Nong met the governor and chief minister of the province and later donated 1,700 food packets to needy families in a food distribution ceremony.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed says anti-Pakistan elements want to destroy the country's peace.
