Earlier this week, #WhereIsDougFord trended on Twitter, as Ontarians noticed that the Premier was absent from the legislature on Monday and Tuesday while the province deals with a health crisis.

After the budget was presented on Monday, some PC MPPs expressed concerns about "gaps" in the federal sick benefit.

When the labour minister was asked for details, Monte McNaughton would only say, "I'm not going to speculate but I can tell workers out there we've got their backs, we're going to get through this together".

This comes following calls from opposition parties to enact paid sick leave policies and close non-essential businesses in Ontario.

"It's been completely negligent that the government has put its own ideology and politics ahead of the health and safety of workers."

Ford has been under fire and mostly out of public view in recent days as critics charge that he has botched Ontario's response to the third wave.

The province claims they were waiting to see if the federal government made changes to the program in the budget before deciding whether or not to take further steps.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the government should have acted earlier and said the program needs to support all workers.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is in isolation after a member of his staff tested positive for COVID-19.
