The 34-year-old was charged with multiple charges including murder and breaching bail.

Police are investigating after a woman was found dead with burn injuries this morning in the backyard of a Gold Coast home.

According to ABC News, the alleged perpetrator remains under police guard in the burns unit of the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital with charges to be presented to the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 21, in his absence.

Mr Hannay had met with Johnston on Sunday, less than 48 hours before he allegedly attacked and murdered Ms Wilkinson.

Superintendent Wildman revealed that police had been in touch with Kelly Wilkinson after a Personal Protection Order was issued following a domestic violence incident police became aware of on March 29.

27-year-old Kelly Wilkinson's burned body was discovered in the backyard of her Arundel home on the morning of Tuesday, April 20.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family and pay for Ms Wilkinson's funeral.

"On Sunday, I got some instructions from him in relation to some other fairly serious matters that he has been charged with, and I haven't spoken to him since", Mr Hannay said.

Johnstone did not appear distressed or agitated for the weekend conference, Mr Hannay said. They wouldn't say a word.

"Obviously, no one expected this to happen, but everyone thought that they were just chugging along as a normal process".

Mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson was killed in her Gold Coast home on Tuesday morning.

"We would like to let everyone know we really appreciate all the donations and kind words", her update read late yesterday.

In a major mea culpa, Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd and Gold Coast Superintendent Rhys Wildman fronted the media to announce an internal review of the tragic case and admit that they had failed to protect Ms Wilkinson.

"My attractive angels", she wrote.

Kelly Wilkinson was allegedly murdered by her former husband.

"This absolutely devastates me".

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said three children, all under the age of nine, were believed to have been at the home at the time.

"I can't even fathom what the Wilkinson Family is going through right now and want to do everything I can to help", he explained.

At least 26 Dominos stores on the Gold Coast will be participating in a fundraising drive to support the family of Kelly Wilkinson.

Mr Hannay said Johnston was expected to apply for Supreme Court bail in the coming months.

Johnston can not apply for bail in the magistrates court and was formally remanded in custody until June 4.

"One of the lines of inquiry that we are following is that the male person we located and the deceased female person were known to each other, and potentially in a previous relationship", Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said.

Police were called to the Arundel home at 6.40am following reports of a disturbance.
